Time is precious, so thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better. It is hard to believe that I've spent nearly 29 years of my professional life working in my hometown's Circuit Court Clerk's Office. I started as an Executive Assistant in 1991 for the late and wonderful J. Curtis Fruit who was the previous Circuit Court Clerk of Virginia Beach. After years of hard work and dedication, I was promoted to Chief Deputy in 2000. With the encouragement and support of Mr. Fruit and my colleagues, I ran for office and was elected as the Virginia Beach Circuit Court Clerk in 2003.
I was extremely happy to have won my election, but I am most proud of being the very first elected Filipino-American woman Constitutional Officer, not only in the City of Virginia Beach, but also in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Additionally, I am certified as a Master Circuit Court Clerk and have also been certified to teach other Clerks and Deputy Clerks. Over the years, I have served on several Boards such as Bon Secours, Courthouse Rotary, VA Aquarium & Marine Science Center, and have held various roles in the Clerks' statewide organization, the Virginia Court Clerks' Association.
My husband, Matt, and I have been married for 37 years and are blessed to have 5 wonderful sons, 3 beautiful grand-daughters and 1 grandson that we are expecting any day. On the weekends, I enjoy watching my grand-daughters play soccer, watching baseball and spending time with family and friends. For more than 25 years, I was the lead singer in a part-time, local band. For the most part, I am retired from the band, but I still enjoy singing at karaoke nights, and I always accept the occasional invite to sing our national anthem or sit in on a song or two with my old band.
Over the years, I have worked hard to hone my knowledge of every responsibility related to being the absolute best Circuit Court Clerk I can be. It has truly been my honor and privilege to be a public servant to the citizens of Virginia Beach as their Circuit Court Clerk.
